Architecture is an archaic profession with roots dating back thousands of years, and also a potential fundamental indicator of the global communication era. It is an art, technology, and science field that covers many disciplines both in the professional and educational fields. One of the characteristics of the discipline of architecture, which has accumulated and established connections for thousands of years, is that its scope of activity not only affects its user but also the entire world community and therefore concerns them.
The Faculty of Arts, Design, and Architecture (FADA) at FMV Işık University was established on December 27, 2011, by the decision number 138 of the University Senate. The Architecture Program established within the faculty is a 4-years (8-semesters), 140-credits undergraduate program. Programs in both Turkish and English languages are available within the Architecture Department. The department started admitting students in the fall semester of the 2012-2013 academic year and graduated its first students at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year.
The educational content of the Architecture Department is structured in accordance with the Bologna Process Criteria, parallel to international architecture programs. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the Architecture program, faculty members from the Departments of Fine Arts, Interior Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Humanities and Social Sciences, which carry out educational activities within FMV Işık University, provide significant support to the Architecture program. This allows for the formation of a qualified and original architecture program.
The students of the Architecture Bachelor's Program, which has the necessary infrastructure and facilities for architecture education and training, have the opportunity to benefit from minor programs, double major programs, and Erasmus programs.
The program maintains an education approach that aims for continuous development in design and technology, and to collaborate with national and international educational and research institutions, industries, and non-governmental organizations to raise awareness of architecture in the society, contribute to the improvement of the quality of life, and become a leading, exemplary and preferred institution in the field of national and international architecture in terms of academic mobility.
The aim is to provide a contemporary education program that offers professional knowledge and experience, supports continuous creativity, and develops environmental and social responsibility awareness to produce innovative, free-thinking, critical, competitive, and original individuals and architects. The program encourages and supports research and development activities in design and science, and shares the knowledge produced with national and international academic circles and communities.
